Assalamualaiqum wa rahamatullah,

I am having my baby boy circumcised pretty soon inshaAllah. I have few questions:

a) What Dua I should recite to make the process easy for him?
b) Is it obligatory that the person circumcising my baby has to be a muslim?
c) Is there any recommended procedure in Islam?
d) What else do I need to do before or after it (e.g. feeding poor or others or sacrifice an animal or else)?

Jazakullah khair.

Wa alaikumussalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

I pray Allah gives barakah (blessings) in your baby and you, the parents.

a) There is no specific dua from the Prophet (s) for cirumcision to be made easy as such; however, you can do dua to Allah in your own language to make the circumcision successful and easy for the baby - and whatever else you like.  In Fortress of the believer, you'll find some dua also about making things easy generally not specifically for this.

b) No, the doctor/operator does not have to be a Muslim, any religion is fine.

c) Recommended to remove all of the foreskin as much as is possible medically and this is what is done usually I believe.  Circumcision, one of its reasons, is for hygiene and therefore, removing of as much as possible is good.

d)  There is nothing specific in Islam to do before or after circumcision - not of dua nor sacrifice or charity specifically for this nor even any funcitions to be done Islamically.

Circumcision is one of the important duties of the parents for the baby, it is a fitrah (nature) on which Allah created us - i.e. hygiene etc.  I pray Allah rewards you for the good toward your child, jazakumullahu khair.

Assalamualaikum,

You may find this link below useful.

It has most of the information regarding newborns in Muslim families. It is a brief summary, with essential information based on authentic hadith, and is easy to use.  It is on, www.IslamicLessons.com - the sister website to this one, www.SunnahInsirations.org!  The link to this page is http://www.islamiclessons.com/menu-features/menu-newborn.html

It includes a section on circumcision too.

In the Fortress of the Muslim, there is a du'a in Chapter 43: Invocation for when you find something becoming difficult for you, page 119.

The dua is:

اللهم لا سهل إلا ما جعلته سهلا وأنت تجعل الحزن إذا شئت سهلا

Allahumma laa sahla illa maa ja'altahu sahlan wa anta taj'alaul-hazna ithaa shi'ta sahlan.

"O Allah, there is no ease other than what You make easy.  If You please You ease sorrow."

Jazakallahu khair.

I really appreciate the comprehensive answers. The links are also very useful as well as the prescribed Dua from the Fortress of the Muslim!

Wassalamu alaikum.
